Yard Improvement

Background: When we bought our house, the previous owner had just fixed some plumbing pipework in the yard and had to replace the sod. And since we were moving in, we wanted to set up internet access. AT&T tried to set us up but it was apparently super tricky. It took them a million years to figure out what to do and eventually had to dig in the yard to fix some cable or something. And they happened to dig in the same spot as the new sod. So we had this grand hole in our yard for probably two weeks with all the sod in a pile. When they finally closed up shop, they just plopped the now dead sod right back on top. We were very very displeased but didn't dare call AT&T to demand something better, for we had realized that any time we call about anything, it results in us losing internet for at least three days (seriously, even when we called to fix the name on the bill that had mysteriously changed. WHY should we lose internet for THAT?)

So we had this big patch of dead grass. And then the babies came and we didn't do hardly any lawn maintenance during the hot summer (or fall. Or winter). So the dead patch grew and grew until about half the grass went kaput. It was a rather embarassing sight. So over Easter weekend, we got to work. We're still adding some plants in a few places but we got a whole lot done.

I don't have a before picture, just imagine a barren wasteland. Behold the fruits of our labor:

Ta da! New sod and a new play area! I'm so excited to have a place for Liam and Dash to go to town.

Laying the soil and sod was rather simple, which surprised us. The playground took a bit more work, laying a weed tarp, digging a wedge for the plastic edging (there's a remarkably large number of bricks buried in the ground), spreading out the mulch. But I'm so very glad we now have it.

Don't tell Liam and Dash about it yet, it's their birthday present! Oh the fun we'll have...
