The Folks in Maine
My parents recently went on a trip to Maine, one of my very favorite places in the world. And they didn't take me! Hmph. They're always supposed to take me (whoops, was that the Spoiled Youngest Child in me coming out?). But they did send me photos, which I sighed at with longing. I'm going to share, because I love my daddy's photos. In fact, my favorite photo ever was one my dad took of the ocean off the coast of Maine- the water looked of liquid metal and the color was so deep and mmm, it was perfect.
The one time I've witnessed the Northern Lights was in this sky. We were standing on the dock down the road and noticed a bit of color in the darkness. Then it grew and moved and awed us. Amazing.
This is my favorite spot, period. Sitting on the rocks, water rushing in and out, reading a book or just taking it all in. It's dreamy just to think about.
Sigh.
This was a driving trip, so they also stopped in D.C. Hey, Linc!
And another stop in Savannah. I don't think trees come any cooler than this.
Just so you know, mom and dad, next time you go to Maine, I AM COMING.

North Side of the Lake
As October grows old, the lower my weather expectations dive. I'm talking winter coats by Halloween. So when we were gifted a little pocket of warmth in the month's penultimate week, I just wanted to soak in it.
One way we did so was visiting the north side of a lake which we've heretofore only known by it's bottom rim thanks to it's beach and playground. That resulted in this treasured series of photos (especially since there's now been snow on the ground for five days) and my new favorite photograph (can you pick which one?).
First, we started with leaf tossing (Grey got to the tossing part... eventually...)
Then the older boys wanted to try their hand with the camera. First Dash...
Then Liam.
We walked a little trail and were silly.
Then we approached the lake.
Next, everyone...
...got a turn...
...throwing rocks.
"Mommy, where are more rocks? I want more to throw."
I got to sit back, watch, and contemplate (nice capture, Dash!). What did I contemplate?
Those big beautiful clouds.
The sun (as reflected in the water).
Life.
And these most spectacular, cute, sweet, smart, wondrous boys. If you guessed that this is my new favorite photo, you'd be so very right. Sigh, I love them.

Crane Family Photography
I gotta show you another family portrait session because I just love these photos. And this family! Let me note that (A) Tara is a photographer too, as in, studied it in college, so... nerves, and (B) after returning home it was discovered that Aspen had a fever, so she gets props for still taking super cute photos!
(oh this makes me chuckle)
(ahhh this is so beautiful!)

Fall Photo
The fall colors were so pretty, we had to get a family photo too! Thanks, tripod! How about that, everyone's smiling. Essentially.
Sweet Dash.
Silly Grey.
Goofy Liam.
We had met at the park separately, Sean coming from work, and it took us ages to meet up. We had parked on opposite sides of the park. So only a little time to explore.
My two goofballs.
Run!
crunch crunch crunch
Admiring the colors.
And tasting the air. Ah, fall.

Minnehaha Play
Back when I did that engagement session, the family came along too.
I left them playing at the playground.
When I finished, they were still playing at the playground.
Sounds like a pretty smashing evening to Grey.
Dash would have to agree.
Liam, however, was not feeling well. Three days of fever and lethargy followed.
But still, it was a fun fall day to play. Hurray!
