Buffalo Bill
As we drove back from Summit County, Sean saw a sign for Buffalo Bill's grave, something he'd seen many times on his drives through Colorado growing up but never investigated. On a whim, we stopped and had a look around.
There's a whole museum dedicated to the man and his Wild West show. All sorts of memorabilia and fun facts.
Did you know that Cody, Wyoming was founded by and named after him? I probably should have known that already but now I surely do!
Buffalo Bill had great success with his cowboy show but made a whole lot of investments that didn't pan out. He couldn't ever retire and didn't have much to his name when he passed.
Near the end of his life, Bill Cody stayed in Colorado where his sister lived and decided he wanted to be buried on Lookout Mountain. But many people thought he ought be rest in Cody and often tried to steal the body. For a time, a tank was posted beside his grave and it was eventually encased in cement to deter graverobbers.
And it is a pretty nice place to be buried, I have to say, with this sprawling view of Denver. And it sure makes for a nice pit stop!
